I worked in the Shetlands at Scatsta Airport where they are upgrading a terminal. My tasks included solvent weld waste pipework & fusion weld pipework, working with Stainless Steel pipe from 15mm to 54mm for the domestic side of the building and also Carbon Steel from 18mm to 108mm for the heating.I was required to read drawings to make sure all pipework was the correct size and specification and was installed correctly at the appropriate location throughout the terminal.I worked with mild steel and had to thread it in various sizes from half inch up to 8 inches. I would then fit it as per the drawing specification using appropriate fittings for the pipework and its end duty (e.g. a gas main). Following this I was responsible for pressure testing and commissioning the main.I gained experience fitting radiant panels in the grids of the ceiling and adding control valves and ancillaries as required.I also completed domestic plumbing duties fitting out toilet areas with wash hand basins, toilet cubicles and urinals and ensured all pipework is fitted so IPS panels can be installed.

Middlesbrough

I worked on various ships in a dry dock & moored up at dock side.Typical tasks and systems worked upon included; oil & gas pipework installation (various sizes), sprinkler systems - installations and maintenance, drainage systems, re-fitting cabins on ships (including hot & cold pipework to the galley), the repairing of bilge pumps & pressure testing ballast tanks & any pipework in them. I was required to work out lengths of pipe work & flanges to get them ready for weldingI worked with pipe sizes from half inch up to twelve inch diameter.The piping systems I worked with were threaded and connected with various fittings as required or they were clipped in place and weld tacked in readiness for full welding.I also worked with stainless steel pipework in various sizes using the crimping machine (Mapress). The pipes were then fully pressure tested before use on high pressure air, oil or gas. I completed work on domestic property. For example, central heating & bathrooms, solvent weld waste pipes and fusion weld on underground plastic pipework.
