I lead location suitability studies for new electric transmission facilities and manage ecological and cultural surveys and permitting from various consultants on any given new construction project and facility modifications. My responsibilities require me to present, collaborate, and negotiate with various stakeholders including internal team members, federal and state agencies, non-government organizations, and from time to time our owner/member cooperatives and private landowners. I document all siting decisions made and the associated environmental impacts. I ensure environmental regulatory compliance is met on capital construction projects. I must be prepared to defend decisions and explain impacts in public forums and legal hearings. In addition, I monitor new technology, data sources, industry trends, and regulatory changes that may affect work flow, task durations, and project success, as well as train and mentor junior staff members. The common thread between these responsibilities are communication and organization.
