Started as a Referral Specialist and quickly promoted to Financial Councilor I. Where my primary focus was to financially authorize and approve all outpatient procedures using both clinical knowledge as well as insurance regulations and guidelines. I was also responsible for training all the new Referral Specialists.

My main duties were similar to that of a referral coordinator but this position allowed me to work more closely with indigent and homeless patients. I was able to work closely with patients and our 34 providers with not only with all their referrals and prior authorization but it also allowed me to meet with the patients face to face and help eliminate any.

I worked closely with the physician and insurance companies to ensure that our patients were able to seek the treatment they needed. This covered all spectrums of the healthcare field from certain specialists to radiology.

I was responsible for verifying patient eligibility and benefits according to their insurance. Inputing patient demographics into the electronic health records system. As well as scanning any pertinent information into the patients chart. I also verified CPT codes entered by the clinical staff and collected any balance associated.
