Consult, recommend, design, implement, administer, supervise, and maintain all agency infrastructure equipment, with emphasis on Network layer devices and services; access, server, and DMZ layer, LAN/WAN routing/switching, wireless, proxy, firewall, DNS, DHCP, Data/Voice circuits, wiring, remote access, security, and Internet. The Tax Commission uses Cisco network equipment mostly, with a sprinkling of Dell and other proprietary technologies. The Network Analyst Sr is the only position of its kind and so is responsible for most inter networking connectivity mentioned above as well as IRS security requirements and review (as per Federal Document Publication 1075), network optimization, monitoring and performance, Cisco Voice (CUCM), Cisco Call Center XPress, and Cisco Unity. Duties also include serving as a backup technician for computer room power/UPS, server, backups, storage, Network Security (IPS and Vulnerability Scanning), AD Group Policy, workstation configurations, business process, business continuity, and disaster recovery. This is a senior level position that is highly visible and responsible for most critical and expensive operational equipment, requiring a large amount of subject matter expertise. This position has before and can be required to supervise other employees. Other duties and expectations include leading and consulting on large I.T. projects; working with clients to define business needs, participating in and recommending purchasing decisions and weighing costs and benefits to meet budget requirements.

The primary purpose of this position was to provide 2nd tier back end technical support for all agency server and desktop systems. In general, this consisted of analyzing, configuring, installing, and troubleshooting on multiple platforms, interfaces, and technologies. This included documentation, leadership, training, and supervision of the above-mentioned responsibilities. -Primary Role: E-mail Administrator: I administered Microsoft Exchange 2003 e-mail servers in 6 different locations connected by a mix of Frame Relay T-1 and later ATM WAN links with Outlook 2000 calendar scheduling, tasking, sharing, and public folders. I maintained two SMTP filters (virus scanner/spam, content, and domain blockers), monitored queues, and performed SMTP security manually. Troubleshooting included personal folders, calendar sharing, shared public mailboxes, public folders, file sharing, and 3rd party device connections such as palm pilots and smart phones. The position also included many other responsibilities such as designing, installing, and configuring Microsoft Windows 2000 and 2003 servers, Windows XP workstations, and managing Group Policy in a Microsoft Windows 2000 and 2003 mixed Active Directory environment. I maintained and administered all of the above as well as many other applications and hardware such as Veritas Backup Exec, HP tape library, disaster recovery system, HP Storage Works, HP Fiber channel SAN, DNS, DHCP, WINS, wiring plant, hubs, and switches. I monitored server health, planned for upgrades, and made recommendations to management on server software and hardware purchases; managed and analyzed Microsoft security patches, service packs, and software updates such as Computer Associates E-Trust AntiVirus pattern file releases. Duties also included helping colleagues with desktop and help desk support, answering phones, and customer service.
