Oversees daily work assignments of technologists within the microbiology department. Focuses on ensuring equity and efficiency of assignments. Monitors daily work completion. Oversees scheduling and focuses on ensuring coverage through vacations & holidays. Involved in interviewing and hiring new staff. In charge of all supply stocking, inventory, and ordering for the department, as well as meeting with vendors. In addition to supervising the department, continues to carry out the responsibilities held as a lab technologist.

•Works in a medical testing laboratory running microbial tests for hospitals and private recovery agencies. •Works with a wide range of medical products including recovery cultures, skin samples, blood samples, bone and soft tissue samples, sterility samples, corneal transplant samples, medical devices, and many more. •Participates in all aspects of the testing including the receipt and logging in of samples, setting up all types of tests including bio-burden, skin, recovery swabs, sterility, eswabs, and B/F testing, reading of samples, and microbial identifications for positive samples.•Communicates closely with clients to provide results, inform about any problems that might arise during testing, and adjust testing as necessary.•Uses anatomy and clinical terminology to distinguish sample types, communicate with clients, and to properly run the necessary testing. •In charge of monitoring the laboratory equipment to be sure it is working properly, is properly calibrated up to FDA standards, and is sufficient for the high sample volume that the lab receives. Also in charge of reviewing and filling out equipment paperwork and testing paperwork.•Performs all supply ordering for the department, with tasks including checking stock of testing supplies and ordering weekly as needed.•Uses strong data entry skills to enter results correctly and in a timely manner. •Uses Microsoft programs such as word, excel, and access to enter results, read and revise operating instructions, and communicate with clients.•Works in a high paced, high stake, lab atmosphere where there is little room for mistakes, and where teamwork and communication are highly necessary. It is an environment where I constantly have to learn and adapt to new procedures and testing types to run the tests that clients are asking for.

•Tested human tissue products including: recovery cultures, environmental monitoring, antimicrobial susceptibility, and sterility testing of pre-processing, in process, and final processing samples.•Identified bacteria, fungus, and yeast using methods not limited to; traditional microbial tests, enzymatic panels, and automated identification systems.•Set up Bioburden samples, skin samples, and sterility tests in a clean room using both direct inoculation and extraction methods. Also sets up Bacteriostasis/Fungistasis testing for new tests.•Adhered strictly to various regulatory bodies including FDA, AATB, ISO, and CAP.•Trained new employees up to the lab’s SOP standards. •Communicated over the phone and via e-mail with clients concerning their samples. This communication often involved solving problems , finding when results will be ready, answering test related questions, and communicating that to them.•Followed and helped revise Standard Operating Procedures to ensure quality of lab processes.•Conducted departmental investigations for deviations, customer complaints, and internal inquiries.

•Practiced Aseptic technique in the cleaning, measuring, and packaging of allograft tissue. This was all done in a clean room.•Used an understanding of human anatomy and medical terminology to identify and differentiate between tissue types.

Acted as the head diving coach for the mens swim team where I ran team practices, organized schedules, and coached and gave criticism to divers on the team. I placed two divers in the top 10 at the Colorado state meet.

I worked as a photographer/salesman where I gained customer service skills and sales experience taking studio photos of families before acting as a salesman to sell those photos in photo packages to the families.
