Chris Gilmour is an investment analyst/market commentator/financial writer and columnist, formerly with Barclays Africa (now Absa) Stockbrokers & Portfolio Management.He holds a B.Sc (Hons) degree in Chemistry and a postgraduate Diploma in Financial Studies from Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh, Scotland. He has spent the last 39 years in financial markets in South Africa, 16 of those being an investment research analyst with various stockbroking firms, including Merrill Lynch. He also managed institutional investment funds in Cape Town, notably at Commercial Union Investment Management, where he was Head of Equities. As a journalist he was an Associate Editor at the Financial Mail.Although his investment research has tended to focus on consumer industrial stocks like retailers and brewers, his long experience in the markets allows him to talk authoritatively on most aspects of the equity markets. He is seen and heard frequently on tv and the airwaves, including Aljazeera, BBC, CNN, CNBC Africa, BizNews, Business Day TV, Classic FM, eTV, Fine Business Radio, eNCA, Kaya FM, SABC/SAFM, Sky TV, MiX FM, Moneyweb, Newzroom Afrika, Power FM and Radio 702.
