I have recently graduated from Swansea University with first class honours in MEng Mechanical Engineering where I was awarded the IMechE Best MEng student at the University. Throughout my years in education I learnt about the fundamentals of engineering theory and had the opportunity to put this into practice on my industrial placement as a reliability engineer. Within this reliability department at Valeros Pembroke refinery I was given the responsibility of reviewing design calculations for on site temporary repairs in addition to bespoke projects involving corrosion monitoring and maintenance. These tasks were all conducted to relevant API, ASME and ISO specifications with the aid of SME’s with extensive experience.Returning to university after my placement year we were introduced to more in-depth modules regarding industry 4.0 and it’s integration within manufacturing allowing for continuous improvements in the sector. It was made evident of the opportunities that were present in manufacturing in the coming years and therefore was of interest to myself. Combining this with a personal interest in motorsport and the automotive industry as a whole I was grateful to be given the opportunity on the Manufacturing Engineering and Operations graduate scheme at Jaguars Land Rovers Halewood facility. I am excited to see how this position will develop my skills as an engineer and is the perfect start to my career.
