Bp Magnus

The central figure in safe control of work activities on the platform and the day to day management of the ISSOW system. As an AA on Magnus I carry out my duties in line with the North Sea Region UKCS-SSW-002 Addendum 7. Other duties I am responsible for include keeping the LTI register up to date, trying to drive down the overall number of LTI’s, the implementation of GOC, carrying out auditing as set out in the platform audit schedule and playing my part in continuous CoW improvement.

During my time as a CRT I was responsible daily for monitoring all the process systems via the platform DCS (Honeywell TDC 3000), Rockwell hard-wired and the ICS software ESD systems. The systems being monitored include oil and gas production, 3 phase separation, gas drying and compression, water injection, gas injection and all the associated utilities. It was my task to identify any processes that were operating out-with normal parameters and make the necessary interventions to achieve optimum plant operating conditions. Another very important part of the role was to monitor the Fire and Gas detection system (ICS Triplex), to be able to understand its operation and know the correct actions to take in the event of an emergency. I was also able to analyse data obtained via the various condition monitoring and trend packages available that allowed me to be proactive in identifying faults and possible future equipment failures. As CRT I had a designated emergency response role within the platform emergency response team. In addition to my main role as CRT I was also responsible for the coaching of new members to the operations team offering training and being a BP CMAS assessor I was able to assess candidates when they were ready.

Bp Magnus

During my time as a Production Technician I covered the areas of Wellbay, Oil Plant and Gas Plant. My main duties included the day to day running of each section carrying out and recording daily routines/readings, commissioning pieces of plant in conjunction the Control Room, carrying out isolations to SIRP standards to allow for preventive and corrective maintenance, fault finding and leak testing after intrusive maintenance. My time in these positions allowed me to gain excellent knowledge of the day-to-day operations of the Magnus Operations Team. I always strived to ensure that platform HSE and environmental standards were maintained by following the standards & procedures set out in BP’s Operating Management System (OMS) and through active participation in BOSS, Area Ownership, risk assessments, audits & DRR toolbox talks. I am also a member of platform fire-team, duties include responding to various emergency situations on the platform as instructed by the OIM. Whilst being an outside production tech I was involved in 3 major TAR’s where I gained a lot of experience, during these times I was involved in the complete flushing of the hydrocarbon systems using both platform systems and BJ Services vendors. Again working alongside BJ Services vendors I was heavily involved in the leak testing and safe reinstatement of the plant back to full production.

Bp Grangemouth

Spent the first two years gaining mutli-disciplined experience by being placed on 6 week secondments to a wide variety of areas around the Petrochemical & Refinery Process and Utility Plants. My last year was spent on the Polypropylene manufacturing Plant PP3 where I carried out roles in the Reaction Area and Polymer Extrusion. It was in that year that I completed my NVQ level 3 in Complex Process Plant.
