Software development is the craft of explaining to machines the things we already know. In this way, we can use them to make our everyday tasks quicker, easier, more fruitful, more pleasant. And, occasionally, to change everything.I am a software engineer with fifteen years of professional experience and another nine of hobbyist experience. I have a particular interest in platforms for social interaction and their effects on society at large, in solving problems of trust with cryptographic guarantees, in new uses for preexisting public APIs and data sources, and in the traits of a system that make it dependable, resilient, and scalable.I consider myself most fluent in Python, but also have a lot of professional experience with Objective-C, C++, and Go. I also have experience working with blockchain and cryptocurrency related technology (but read my entire profile before trying to recruit me on this topic). I am familiar with the languages of the web (HTML/CSS/Javascript/PHP/etc) but do not consider them my strong suit.If you are a recruiter, understand that I have three main criteria for where I work, other than compensation; my willingness to entertain your offers will hinge, to a large extent, on whether you are able to make a good argument for them.• I live in the Front Range Urban Corridor of Colorado. Due to commitments in my personal life, I unfortunately cannot relocate from the region, even for a role with perfect fit and lavish compensation; if your company's offices are elsewhere, you will have to be OK with taking me on as a remote worker/telecommuter.• Outside of business hours, I must be able to go home and work on my own projects, and retain IP and creative control of them. Bureaucratic red tape in securing this right can be acceptable, but is a downside.• I must be convinced that the company I work for cares about the moral and ethical implications of its business. This is a matter of what happens in practice, not just policies; it must take into account real-world actions and outcomes, and be willing to course-correct when intentions and outcomes are proving to no longer align. This especially applies to cryptocurrency projects, an industry from which I divested before most people had heard of it; if you want to hire me into that industry, then be prepared for a long conversation about how your project is able to navigate the topic's moral and ethical pitfalls where so many others have failed.
