I worked inside an industrial freezer moving large boxes of frozen food while managing the stock and its relevant information on a handheld device, this was the case for both stores I worked in (2 years at each). The typical temperature inside the freezer would be around -18C. I would handle all frozen deliveries using an electric pallet truck. An important aspect of the job outside of the freezer was data entry and analysis. I always had a hand held device that I used to scan barcodes on boxes for information such as the number in stock and their next delivery date. It was expected of me to ensure this data was always as accurate as possible with constant manual adjustments throughout a shift.I would typically work by myself inside the freezer. Working with truck drivers on how I would like to receive deliveries. Working with fellow staff if they needed urgent assistance in their particular departments. Working with management regularly to execute their vision or any plans they would like me to tackle during a particular shift. During the 4 years there was multiple times due to people leaving or needing sudden time off that I was put in charge of the entire frozen department for weeks at a time.The biggest challenge I consistently faced would be one of problem solving. It was a regular occurrence that the level of stock provided to me could barely fit inside the freezer. This meant making the most of the space was crucial. However, deliveries had a strict time limit since they were made up of frozen food products and would thaw if not stored in the freezer quickly. With the constant distraction of painfully uncomfortable temperatures being present the entire time on top of the weight of the items being handled.My favourite part of the job was working with my fellow employees. They were all great people that I intend to continue to check up on for years to come.
