I am a 22-year-old aspiring film editor, who has other skills such as animating, sound design, cinematography, photography, and directing. My passion for film has gone back to when I was 7-years-old and making stop-motion animations with Legos. One thing that I can connect to me wanting to work in movies is when my 3rd grade teacher gifted me a video editing software that allowed for me to expand upon my ideas. I worked at each of my school’s video clubs and learned about broadcasting, which helped learn how to deal with working in a fast-paced and detailed environment. Towards the end of high school, I became the executive producer of my school’s TV show and learned how to communicate and teach my peers skills that they have had no prior knowledge of, and be able to master them in a short amount of time. Over the course of the past 15 years, I have done work both on my own and collaboratively on documentaries, narrative films, and experimental works. I take pride in having a range of skills and interests and wanting to push myself in my creative abilities. What I enjoy about editing and post-production work is that it can improve a project and refine ideas so that the final piece comes out the best that it can. I enjoy working on projects from start to finish as I am able to have my own creative input early on in development and have time to connect with projects. Working on projects from the early stages also allows for me to be able to identify and solve a wide range of problems that my skills can help with. One such example of when I worked on a project from the start is a senior thesis film titled “Bow and Arrow” that I worked on in my junior year. The challenges that we faced were the use of super 16mm film, a secluded filming location, and weather. We overcame each of those issues through thorough planning, practice, and patience. During the editing stage, I had to communicate with the director on feedback that we received and pitch my ideas on how to resolve them. One shot in particular was not an easy shot to remove since the crew put a lot of time and effort into setting the shot up and the director loved the look of it, but in the end I had to let them know that it would not help the film. Some of my biggest influences are Steven Spielberg and Stanley Kubrick as to me, they showed exciting movies and the beauty of cinema. Other influences outside of cinema are skateboarding, fashion, and music.
