Manager of the Estimating Group which undertakes the estimating process to deliver a fit-for-purpose estimate in the required timeline for both bidding purposes and support of projects. This includes capital cost estimates and service bids using a variety of contracting arrangements.

Responsible for the management of the complete bidding process, including full interfacing with client representatives, coordination of in-company resources and management of internal and external stakeholder groups. This role works at a senior role and requires considerable liaison with the company's leadership team, by informing them of risk, opportunities and ensuring full corporate compliance is made with all business decisions.As Chief Estimator I provided expert advice to corporate decision makers, on the development of cost and contracting models for large scale engineering projects. These projects are multi £ billion world scale projects including power, chemical, LNG and refining and are located in all areas of the world. Contractual arrangements have included PMC, EPCm, FEED, Feasibility Studies and LSTK bids.

Acted as one of the principal figureheads for the UK government’s Construction Best Practice improvement initiative. Handled a team of eight individuals dedicated to developing and a communicating to industry business improvement practises. This included extensive media coverage and discussion with key industry figures. Team also developed other research initiatives into operational and commercial management subjects, including value propositions, risk management, procurement strategies and contractual relationships.

The commercial aspects of the project delivery process were handled in its entirety, but with a principal focus on capital cost, commencing with the feasibility study of intended projects, through to the commercial management of the project during its construction. Development and implementation of commercial strategies, such as supply chain management and value enhancing tools, to maximise commercial value. Projects typically involved major utility and civil engineering installations for industrial complexes.

Carrying out the tendering process in a managerial capacity, responsible for submission of commercial proposals for four regional offices. Particular emphasis with projects requiring detailed understanding such as chemical process facilities, sewage treatment plants, food process facilities and utility installation contracts. Project specific procurement strategies, preparation of method statements and project planning were skills developed and employed. Responsibility of the complete tender package led to a higher than average success rate, both on a competitive and direct client negotiation basis.

Responsibility for the financial control of civil engineering contracts, including that of staff carrying out the estimating and material procurement, together with its administration control. Reported directly to the Managing Director.

Developed working drawings and design studies for a diverse range of projects including; process facilities, rendering plants, abattoirs and general industrial facilities

A traditional carpentry apprenticeship was served with a timber framing contractor, eventually gaining a distinction in City and Guilds 585 - Carpentry and Joinery.
