Responsible for providing the direction, leadership and organization over the activities of the Southern Alberta Organ and Tissue Donation Program (SAOTDP). These activities will include the integration of various resources to carry out these activities. The position is also responsible and accountable for making key decisions and having direct leadership responsibility for establishing and contributing to the achievement of the goals of the Surgery, Trauma Services, Critical Care and SAOTDP portfolio. This position is also responsible to develop strong working relationships with key stakeholders in the organ and tissue donation community locally, provincially, nationally and internationally.

Foothills Medical Centre

Responsible for the round-the-clock operation of the inpatient nephrology/transplant unit. Accountabilities include professional development of staff, hiring & orientation of new staff, maintenance of clinical standards, performance management, quality, and patient safety, investigating safety concerns, and employee engagement. Also responsible for coordinating on-unit resources to accommodate safe and effective care for deceased-donor transplant recipients and live-related transplant recipients. Budgetary responsibilities include monitoring of expenses, monthly reconciliation of financial variance & yearly budget planning. Direct reports included 108 nursing staff and 20 support staff. Currently engaged in long term implementation of Accreditation Canada standards, and a multidisciplinary communication project with Patient Care Unit 37, Allied Health - Foothills Medical Centre, and the Division of Nephrology.

Responsibilities include accountability for providing direction, team leadership and organization over the activities of 35 professional and support staff, 6 specialty clinics and 3 programs. Budgetary responsibilities include monitoring of expenses, monthly reconciliation of financial variance, billing & cost recovery for programs not funded by Alberta Health Services, and yearly budget planning. Guided the successful implementation of an electronic scheduling system and currently engaged in business process redesign across the department. Also accountable for the design and implementation of safety and pandemic planning for the business unit.
