Hello, my name is Christopher Nelson. I’m a Metrology Technician, and I’m going to tell you how I went from flipping burgers to measuring precision optics. I work at Danbury Mission Technologies (DMT) as an Optical Metrologist Tech. I’ve worked here for almost two years. At DMT we are on the cutting edge of technology, constantly developing optics that others only dream of. My contribution to the mission comes in measuring plano & powered optics, with an introductory understanding of aspheric mirrors. However, I didn’t start in the field of optics. My beginning was at Henry Abbott Technical High School where I first earned my diploma and a certificate in culinary arts. My heart was set on making meals that brought a smile to everyone’s faces. After the certificate, I went on graduating from Naugatuck Valley Community College from the Hospitality Management program in 2018, Cum Laude. All this while persistently taking on full-time kitchen work.My kitchen experience ranged from fast food, baking, catering, dining, and even hospice. In fact, it was at my hospice job where an epiphany struck: I was learning so much, but there was never enough room to grow past a certain point. It was at this time that through networking, my brother who worked at DMT, mentioned the metrology department had recently posted an entry level position. I did not hesitate; my application was in and before I knew it, so was I. Through dedication and hard work, I have proven myself time and time again. By teaching myself Python coding, processes that took hours now take minutes. To further my education, I’ve taken up part-time schooling at Monroe Community College in pursuit of an associate degree in Optical Systems Technology. With everything going according to pan, graduation is set for Fall of 2024.If all of that wasn't enough, I've even started up a personal blog in my spare time. This blog has been a great use of the time I have after work. I get to write with a passion, about my passions!
