About Christopher Nielson

Current focus is in using machine learning/AI with electronic medical record data to identify risks for adverse events that can be effectively treated at an early stage or prevented. Recent work to develop continuously predictive models has been applied to acute kidney injury (Nature 7/31/2019) is a good example. The methods can be extended to a range of conditions such as sepsis, hospital acquired infections, heart disease, COPD, delirium. I retired in 2017 and am now professor emeritus, University of Nevada, but continue to be active in AI work and hold a WOC position with the VA. Primarily interests now are in approaches to improving public health and preventing adverse events or progression of disease. Past work has been in critical care, teaching, electronic medical record development and predictive analytics.
