I began my journey of public service in 2006 when I worked for the people of Jefferson County, Alabama sheriff’s deputy. During my time as a full-time law enforcement office, I completed my degree at the University of Alabama at Birmingham with a Bachelor of Arts – Early Childhood/Elementary Education. Upon completion of my undergrad program, I immediately began an interim teaching position at Valley Intermediate School (now Pelham Oaks Elementary) in Pelham, AL. My internship and interim positions helped prepare me for my first full-time teaching position at Valley Intermediate School from Fall of 2010 until Spring of 2012. I relocated to Middle Tennessee where I began teaching a LaVergne Lake Elementary School in LaVergne, Tennessee (Rutherford County). For five years I was a part of a seven-member team at one of the largest title one schools in the district. In December of 2017, I applied and happily accepted a full-time position with Murfreesboro City Schools. Once hired for Black Fox Elementary School, I began teaching sixth grade math and science. Within my first two years, I and my partner were able to achieve some of the highest math growth within the district for sixth grade. Since working for Murfreesboro City Schools I have served on the STEM designation committee as co-chair. The purpose of this committee to gain recognition from the state of Tennessee as school focused on teaching STEM. In addition, I worked on a science/social studies committee and was responsible for creating both science and social studies scope-and-sequences that were approved and adopted for use at the beginning of the 2021-2022 school year. During and since the Covid-19 pandemic, I have taught in person and online for the city of Murfreesboro. For the 2021-2022 school year, I have served as the district’s fourth through sixth grade virtual teacher. During the 2021-2022 school year, I have taught hundreds of students ELA and math while they were quarantined due to Covid-19. In addition to being an educator, I have worked several part-time jobs for fun including working at local hardware stores, working on the occasional hardwood flooring job, and serving and working the canning line at a local brewery. My interpersonal skills are exceptional, and I can talk to anyone about almost anything. I am a walking trivia machine with an abundance of useless knowledge. I am involved with my local church, I love serving others, and it gives me great joy to make others laugh! I love tackling new challenges and I am always open to learning new things.
