The defining piece to this is: How involved with the departure of your team members are you? Are you finding it a surprise when employees are leaving? I am a firm believer in people don't leave companies they leave managers. How an employee departs a company is a direct reflection on their immediate supervisor. If you have managed your onboarding process correctly, and been an active part of their career development. You will find the departure of an employee will be less of a surprise, you will lose them to other departments and internally. In the cases where they are leaving the company, you will be better prepared and much more involved in how an employee leaves as well.
