My experience working at Duro Dyne introduced me to the world of engineering in the HVAC industry. Being able to design products for one of the leading manufacturers in the industry taught me so much. My responsibilities at this company were plentiful and I was introduced to a new challenge almost every day. With that, I can confidently say that I learned something new every single day, whether it be related to HVAC procedures or mechanical engineering techniques as a whole. As an engineer at Duro Dyne, one of my main responsibilities was to evaluate and analyze existing designs and present a cost-saving and/or labor-saving solution. This process included the redesign of anything from a change in structure of the system, subcomponents or subassemblies of the system, sourcing out different parts or components used in the design, changing the materials used in the design, adjusting or reworking mechanical drawings and documentation, etc. I'd often use the design process for these tasks and use Autodesk programs (CAD and Inventor) to sketch prototype models, then have the production team work up prototype sample pieces for me to fabricate, fit, and assemble to my sketched design. I was also a pivotal member to the team which designed and presented new products to our upper management group. I worked closely with the senior manager of design and technology to design, sketch, and prototype new products when the challenge was presented from upper management.My additional responsibilities included chairing a weekly meeting that focused on value analysis and value engineering of our existing products. The meetings aimed to reduce cost, save time, and add value to existing designs on all technical fronts. I was also the coordinator of ordering replacement and spare parts for several production departments, and scheduling service calls for downed machines. I worked closely with the purchasing department as well to find solutions to backordered and discontinued items.

I always have this summer position at Sweeney's Pool Service to fall back on. My duties here include skimming and vacuuming pools to eliminate algae and bacteria, applying chemicals based on data collected and analyzed from a chemical test kit and the system's equipment, periodically cleaning and maintaining filtration systems, and working in teams to plumb or re-plumb unified PVC systems.

This internship really enhanced my knowledge of working in the engineering field. I was responsible for assisting engineers in the design and layout of on-site building control systems. Additionally, I was responsible for fabricating and hard-wiring electrical control panels based on a particular job site's requested design. I also participated in weekly training sessions that educated me on mechanical, electrical, and networking concepts. Those sessions taught me a lot about the company, and about the automated building controls industry as a whole.

The sales associate position at Modell's Sporting Goods was my first occupational experience. During my experience I was responsible for a single store department's neatness and presentation on a nightly basis. I also worked collaboratively with other team members to ensure an ideal sales floor for daily presentation to customers. I was able to gain valuable experience with conducting sales transactions using NCR electronic systems, which enhanced my technical computer skills and communication values along the way.
