During the summer of 2012 I worked on the London 2012 Olympic Games at the sailing venue in Weymouth, Dorset for two monthsI was employed as part of the utility team at the venue there was a team of five of us who reported directly to the venue technical manager and we were responsible for setting and establishing all the camera positions and data cable runs. We had four sites to maintain with only the public being aware of two. We had four sites to maintain with only the public being aware of two. This meant I had to work with the public as well as a lot of outside international agencies.I was involved with manually installing cameras and date cabling including fibre optic and camera vision leads. I was also tasked with installing various RF stations for the remote camera signals located on the boats themselves. Within the athletes marina I was included in installing the cameras and dummy’s on the competitor’s boats and assisting with the televised output in the outside broadcast truck.The roll of utilities was primarily to set up and de-rig the equipment for the games, and then during the games I got to experience the other departments as I was in a standby roll and got pulled away when needed.
