About Christopher Potter
During my tenure with the California Natural Resources Agency (CNRA), I was one of the primary drafters of a memorandum of understanding (MOU) between the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, CNRA, California Environmental Protection Agency, and the California Public Utilities Commission. The MOU established a procedure for coordinated and efficient review of proposed marine hydrokinetic electric generating projects. More recently, as the Marine Renewable Energy Program Manager for the Ocean Protection Council (OPC), I was responsible for convening the state’s Marine Renewable Energy Working Group (MREWG). Under my leadership, the MREWG initiated coordination among state agencies for offshore wind energy permitting and discussions around environmental monitoring. In addition, while at the OPC, I initiated several studies/data gathering efforts to help assist with offshore wind siting in California. Last, at the request of the California Energy Commission and U.S. Department of Energy, I have participated in technical advisory committees for studies and research projects involving renewable energy development in the marine environment. Currently, I am completing a graduate program in energy policy at Oregon State University.
