In this position, I work closely with ACUA and FAA biologists to monitor avian populations surrounding commercial and military flyways. Data relating to species, population size, habits, roosting, feeding and migration are continuously monitored. This data is the foundation used in action plans that reduce catastrophic strike events. Nuisance species are subject to behavior modification techniques to keep flyways clear. Desired species are documented and when possible action plans for population development are implemented.

This two year research project with Dr. James Graves studied species morphology and forest community composition in stressed ecosystems of the Pine Barrens and Atlantic maritime forests. My work included writing source reviews and a regional environmental history for the mid Atlantic coastal plain with a focus on post western colonization of southern NJ. I helped designed the study from methods for site selection to data collection. In these unusual communities, the unique methods for sampling required careful documentation. The fieldwork included conducting forest assessments and inventories, gathering GIS data, sampling species and recording allometric data. I conducted a variety of statistical analysis on research data that provided the basis for the final report.
