About Christopher Risher
Having completed graduate training at the Medical College of Georgia and a postdoctoral fellowship at Duke University, I have just begun my own independent research lab in the Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine at Marshall University in the Department of Biomedical Sciences.My research plan focuses on the contributions of non-neuronal cells called astrocytes to synaptic connectivity and the morphogenesis of dendritic spines, the excitatory synaptic structures known to be impaired in neuropsychiatric disorders such as autism, epilepsy, addiction, and schizophrenia. How do these processes occur during "normal" development, and how might they go wrong in cases of early life drug exposure?
