We are a product design, innovation studio that specializes in creating unique architectural items. Our designs are historically traditional as well as delightfully contemporary. Our primary material is GFRC Concrete. We use the most advanced, highest quality raw materials available that push the nano technology envelope, while addressing lighter weights, higher strengths and overall better function. Our materials are LEED certified and help me sleep at night as a result. We are in the process of launching a full line of very high quality architectural products for commercial/residential, interior/exterior uses. Tile, fireplaces, fire-pits, hearths, interior and exterior furniture, commercial lobbies and details, as well as many creations that are one of a kind. We currently offer over 200 architectural products and building more. These products can also be made of traditional materials such as select wood species, metals and stone as well as limestone materials. Our Team:I am working with some talented designers and innovators; Phil Smith: www.pksmithwoodcarving.com and Mike O'Brien, former head of global engineering for P&G. We have a wonderful sales force, marketing and production teams that cares about the outcome of every piece. We are also working with other product designers from around the country that have distinctive product lines but not always the resources or ability to market, distribute and scale manufacturing of their products.
  • Maji Safi
    Co-Director, North America
Maji Safi May 2010 - Present
Cincinnati, Ohio Usa And Eldorat, Kenya Africa
I have been very lucky and blessed to have the opportunity to work with so many gifted people. One of those people is Mike O'Brien, Former Global Technical Director for P&G, (retired). Mike was originally asked by the AMPATH program of Indiana University's medical research program, (25 years of success in Africa, www.ampathkenya.org) to take a look at why the hospitals of Kenya keep losing supplies of safe and clean drinking water and how it can be corrected. Was it political, resourcing, technology, budgetary, desire, management, pipeline, sustainable human factors or basic knowledge or all of the above? How do we solve this and what is the future impact of sustainable change on the population?Developing countries have to come to terms with the gold standard of having safe, clean drinking water and that is it has to be bought. Technical challenges can be solved, water can be purified but the question is: what will create "real sustained habit change in the people of Kenya and other developing countries"? Mike is on the ground in Kenya 4 out of every 6 weeks. He came to me with this challenge and we have been working on an affordable solution and basic business model that solves the technical issues, educates the population and puts people to work while manufacturing with their own resources to create equity which allows them to reinvest into their own solution and "pay for water". I am happy to say that Mike has broken through on the engineering and created a product that costs between $9-$16 per unit (this will change depending on scale of manufacturing. The system can filter 20 liters of contaminated water/mud every 3 hours and can last up to 5 years. The filter specifically filters 100% of the protozoa and bacteria from the water, anything less than 100% is a failure. Mike came to me and asked me to help him design, launch and hone this model/opportunity for the people that need it most as a non profit. Please inquire to help.
  • Rookwood Pottery Company
    President & Ceo
Rookwood Pottery Company Mar 2002 - Dec 2010
    Cincinnati Area
I was a founding member and instrumental in returning the "original" Rookwood Pottery of 1880 back to Cincinnati after it had been gone for over 40 years. Quite a difficult but rewarding challenge placing the brand in a competitive place where it once again gain prominence and success. In 2010 the company experienced an extremely questionable, unethical and hostile takeover that was being litigated in court for most of 2011. With a growing family and sick wife I simply did not have the energy or financial resources or ignorance to match the campaign of an opposition that did not fight fair. It was better to move on and get back to more positive actions in work, life and most importantly - family.
  • Tartan Design
Industrial & Graphic Designer / Owner
    Tartan Design Jan 1998 - May 2005
    Cincinnati Area
I worked with many wonderful Cincinnati and National design firms as well as individual clients creating unique branding initiatives, design and implementation. Some of these firms included Saatchi, LPK, Landor, Interbrand and Fisher Design to name several. This was a great time to evolve my over all design and business philosophies closer together which allowed me to take on more complex endeavors, as is life.
  • 98 Degrees
    Management Position
    98 Degrees 1998 - 2001
    Global
For months at a time I would go out on the road and help to road manage this young band that was first signed on Motown and then bought by the Universal Label. These guys are my friends and we worked hard to protect their normal lives. The band toured all over the world performing and doing PR/media engagements and sold millions of albums during this time. I add this because it was an amazing experience that I am very proud that I had the opportunity to experience (too lovely of a wife and kids to do now though). The band on the road was an amazing challenge to keep track of while managing people and places. We were a small town on wheels and planes that had to meet deadlines and make people happy while most importantly - make profits and keep people employed.
  • Eco Design (Element Control Outfitters)
    Owner / Designer
Eco Design (Element Control Outfitters) Oct 1994 - Dec 1997
    Boulder, Colorado
Myself and a partner designed, created, tested, had manufactured and imported, marketed and set distribution for a line of extreme outdoor products. Ice axes and ice climbing gear, rondanee bindings for skiing, and clothing. After 3ish years of success we sold our interests. We sponsored teams of climbers that went to Argentina and Nepal to climb and test our products. We tested all our own products in Colorado. We licensed a new technology for clothing called "Outlast", a thermal regulating fabric barrier that was first used in the NASA spacesuit. This technology allowed clothing to be very thin while providing more than ample thermal protection.
  • Steve Tobin - Fine Artist
    Artist / Designer
    Steve Tobin - Fine Artist 1993 - 1997
    Quakertown, Pennsylvania
Off and on I worked with Steve Tobin on his art pieces during this period. I spent weekends and whatever time I could learning glass blowing and bronze sculpture. This fed my need for fine art and connecting with a non-commercial art endeavor. Steve is a very accomplished artist that innovates not just his own brand as an artist but pushes all mediums in which he works. I also helped Steve setup gallery and museum shows as well as design coffee table books of his work.
  • Louis Nelson Design Inc
    Industrial & Graphic Designer
Louis Nelson Design Inc Oct 1993 - Oct 1994
    New York City
I was a designer on many great projects that I am still very proud of. Our team designed the Korean War Memorial that resides on the mall in Washington DC. We also worked on wayfinding projects for the Metropolitan Transit Authority (MTA) of NYC, designing systems for subways and JFK Airport. We also designed systems for the PATH train systems of NY & NJ.
  • Siegel+Gale
    Industrial & Graphic Designer
    Siegel+Gale Aug 1993 - Oct 1993
    New York City
I worked on brand initiatives for fortune 500 companies such as Harley Davidson, Bank One, 3M, Nations Bank as well as others. Being a part of the relaunch of Harley was a great honor. We designed all aspects of brand and were responsible for many groundbreaking aspects of branding. I was fortunate enough to work with some very amazing pioneers of design starting at this time of my life.
  • Hlw International (Haines Lundberg Waehler)
    Industrial & Graphic Designer
Hlw International (Haines Lundberg Waehler) Feb 1993 - Oct 1993
    New York City
Kuwait National Memorial. Our team was tasked with designing and programming the entire memorial space except for the monument. Creating the buildings and learning experience that best captured the Gulf War was a great challenge. The "folding hands" monument itself was already designed by another firm. This was an open bid with HLW won.
