My passion is mental health, psychology, and improving wellness in individuals as well as communities through my work, advocacy, and encouragement. At this time, suicide is the leading cause of death for those who are 13-24 in the state of Colorado. This statistic is worrying and devastating. For this reason, more attention and resources must be devoted to these populations to give compassion and with it, prevent deaths by suicide. My experience in mental health has been working alongside people impacted by suicide, trauma, and other hardships. This work involved answering the suicide helpline, the 211 resource helpline, the veteran suicide helpline, and other crisis lines. I am at this time working for an emergency department and assisting those in crisis related to mental health emergencies. Working with crises has increased my skills in communication, de-escalation, compassion, cultural competence, and knowledge. Currently, I have worked with and seen hundreds of cases of suicide, homicide, and other serious mental health-related issues. As a mental health advocate, I encourage individuals to prioritize their mental wellness, seek help when needed, and promote open conversations about mental healthMental health is an incredibly important part of our lives that affects all of us daily.
