I grew up in the commercial construction industry. My Grandad owned & operated one of the largest mason / concrete businesses in the DFW area. We completed D.O.D. projects, government projects, alot of public school buildings of DFW from 1994 to 2005. Grandad believed that my involvement in this work would teach me valuable life lessons & give me valuable work experience only obtained the from working all these different projects. The verbal discussions / agreements, print designs, print approvals, material approvals, bid proposals, subcontractor takeoffs, contracts, mobilization, construction phase, money management & closing of the project were just some of the parts I participated in & witnessed. I went to college to become an Electrical Engineer. Years later I decided I wanted something more than all that debt & something that got me out of my comfort zone. So I decided to get that on the job experience with a trade I did not know. I started doing commercial electrical work. I got my Jorneyman license years later then became a Electrical Superintendent for some time. Made some good friends & built a good repor with my fellow tradesman & work colleagues along the way, so much so one offered me a Concrete Superintendent position & the rest is history. The main thing I learned that can be applied to any trade or life experience is to always listen to others. No matter who they are, what perspective they have or experience level. Respectfully listening to others & then retaining that information to make an informed decision has been the key to my success. There is something I have noticed that I do more than most other Superintendents out there. I obsessively make preparations for future work. I also eat, drink & breath this lifestyle. I can not see myself doing anything else. I love this work and would like to continue doing this as long as I can.
