The Certified Public Accountants Association (CPAA) represents accountants in the UK and beyond.The CPAA represents, regulates and supports accountants in public practice in the UK. Everything the Association does revolves around this.We are actively engaged in dialogue with UK government agencies, lenders, businesses, employers and other professional accountancy bodies. Through these dialogues we help to put forward the opinions, views and concerns of our members in practice in the UK. As an elected member of the CPAA's Council of Management and a director I have specific responsibility for the finances of the Association and in conjunction with the Chairman, as Deputy, for the management of short, medium and long term projects designed to enhance the professional and educational support provided to our members. In addition as Chairman of the Association's Anti Money Laundering Steering Committee it is my responsibility to ensure that every member who holds a UK Practising Certificate is fully compliant with the UK's existing and proposed Anti Money Laundering legislation. This is carried out by the provision of continuous education and training facilities for members, making specialist software freely available to assist members to fulfill their Client Due Diligence responsibilities and online and helpline advice and assistance. In addition the Association carries out specific risk based assessments of members' exposure and ability to combat criminal threats and activity. These assessments are coupled with telephone compliance reviews and/or full compliance visits to members' offices to ensure appropriate systems are in place and in operation to meet or exceed the standards required under the legislation.
