Another part to this role is having good communication skills as you are the focal point for all operations during the plant start up, running, shutting down and whilst off line. Handover skills are an important part to the role and I make sure the oncoming technician is aware of many things such as upsets, ongoing work, outstanding permits or any site issues to name a few. As part of a shift team my role includes the running, operating and maintenance of the Vinyl Acetate Monomer plant (now shut down) and the Ethyl Acetate plant. Whilst on shift, my duties include working with the day team to optimise plant performance and to perform plant isolations using our permit to work system. My other roles include on site fire man dealing with minor and major incidents and accidents, fork truck driver and shift safety champion.

At Reckitt Benckiser I worked in the “Dries” area within the maintenance team, operating/monitoring and maintaining the production lines in that department, which saw an increased daily percentage output once I joined. One of my key roles was to change the machinery from one product to another which involves a complete machine strip down, rebuild and proof running prior to a production run.

I played a key role in delivering the final product ahead of schedule and within budget. I am consistent in my approach to improving the overall standard of work and have assisted team leaders in creating a safer work environment for the whole of the Stage Two area. A significant part of my role is working with the aircraft’s fuel system, which involves using Shellsol D100 substitute fuel and Avtur F34 aviation fuel.
