Operate pumps, valves, chemicals, computers and other controls/equipment to generate electrical power via steam-driven turbines and generators. Use natural gas and heavy fuel-oil combustion boilers to accurately drive heat-rates, steam pressures, various fluid dynamics and emissions controls. Operate emergency diesel powered generators when necessary. Maintain chemistry limits for feedwater, condensate, waste water. Maintain gas quality and pressures in generator and boiler. Adhere to environmental and safety regulations. Work extensively with electrical equipment, mechanical equipment, pumps, valves, piping, chemicals, hazardous waste, environmental hazards, oil barge equipment, etc. in all weather conditions and extensively on rotating 12-hour shifts. Maintain a working knowledge of all plant elements, their functions, limits, hazards and emergency action plans by practical study and minor engineering analysis.
