As Business Operations Coordinator at Catholic Health's Good Shepherd Hospice, I create and implement data-driven process improvement workflows and quality assurance practices that maximize productivity, mitigate risk, capture efficiencies, and eliminate redundancies.This role entails managing and developing a Business Operations team, coordinating durable medical equipment (DME), and overseeing all aspects of Orders Management and CTI (certification of terminal illness) management for GSH. Additionally, I facilitate the creation of non-hospital DNRs for patients on service and support the Business Operations Director in assisting other cross-functional teams and ensuring interdepartmental quality coordination of workflows and projects.Previously, I was entrusted with leading the Medical Records team for both Catholic Health and GSH on an interim basis in late 2023. I also represent both GSH’s Business Operations and Catholic Health’s Orders Management departments during and since a major transition to Epic EMR. As such, I identify several areas of risk and work closely with the EMR vendor and Catholic Health’s IT Department to address them.

In this capacity, I created and implemented several process improvement initiatives including a change in strategic direction, adoption of a data analytics approach, and a departmental redesign using a practice-centered strategy. I also designed several new reporting processes, including a Master Report, that allowed an actionable connection to be made between orders outstanding and claims expiring, as well as other key priority identifiers for the teamBy co-establishing an escalation mitigation protocol, we were able to quickly identify and solve any logjams associated with obtaining physician signatures upstream. As such, we reduced the average age of outstanding orders from 48 to 14 days over a six-month period.
