Trainee Air Traffic Controller
CurrentI was employed by NATS as a trainee Air Traffic Controller following a rigorous and competitive selection process. I trained in Spain, on a pathway to become an 'area' controller. Area controllers work with radar, and manage a sector of airspace, ensuring a safe, orderly and expeditious flow of air traffic. I completed six weeks of classroom based theory with eight exams on meteorology, aircraft, law, equipment, navigation, air traffic management, human factors and professional environment. These were followed by training on radar simulators and summative exams based on the simulator training that I had received.
