SiVenture, a division of Cisco, performs IT Security assessments, product evaluations under the CC and CPA schemes and consultancy. Products evaluated range from embedded devices, such as payment terminals and smart meters to large VPN, virtualization and database systems. I worked as part of a small team of highly skilled professionals to deliver this work with a reputation for technical excellence and strong client relationships. I took the role with SiVenture because I am passionate about security and relish the problem solving challenges the job presented.• Small team meant I had lots of responsibility from the start.• Varied nature of the work, with all the different technologies encountered, flexed my technical and problem solving skills.SECURITY EVALUATION RESPONSIBILITES• Performing security evaluation work, primarily of products under the CESG Commercial Product Assurance and Common Criteria schemes• CPA lead evaluator/Project Manager for CPA evaluations with responsibility for planning and executing the evaluation.• Liaising with customers and the national Technical Authority CESG.• Analysing products at a design and source code level for security weaknesses.• Devising and performing in depth security testing.• Assisting with audits of developer sites and development procedures.SOFTWARE DEVELOPMENT RESPONSIBILITES• Leading development of SiVenture’s internal test tools• Examples include Network Protocol Fuzz Testing, Image Processing and Side Channel Analysis• Developing primarily in C, Java and PythonCONSULTANCY RESPONSIBILITES• Providing consultancy to clients on security and evaluation matters.• Attending, and presenting at, working groups to provide consultancy to UK government and industry.
