David has been involved in the UK energy market for 15 years delivering smart energy solutions and developing smart meter equipment. David has a background is in telecommunications & embedded systems design and spent 10 years with the UK subsidiary of a major European meter manufacturer most recently as technical director. David was a member of a core team that designed and delivered a number of early innovations including an early GSM enabled smart electricity meter, token-less prepayment meters and gas data loggers. He has a broad understanding of WAN and HAN technologies and protocols. David has spent the last three years engaged with the Department of Energy & Climate Change and other industry stakeholders in the development of the specifications for smart metering. He has represented BEAMA and ESTA on various government industry work groups including the Smart Metering Design Group (SMDG), Electricity Meter Variants Work Group, ESTA Metering and Monitoring Steering Group, SMDG WAN Work Group, BEAMA Smart Metering Association Technical Committee and the Intimate Communications Hub Work Group.
