It’s my job to translate the architect’s designs into construction plans. I do this by ensuring that all of the structural elements are properly detailed and coordinated with the architects. It is also my responsibility to ensure that construction materials are selected, procured, and installed correctly in order to meet design intent.I have always had a deep interest in engineering from a young age- it was only natural that I should study civil engineering at Nottingham Trent University. Graduating with first-class honours last year, I then went on to obtain a Master's degree in Structural Engineering and Materials from Nottingham Trent University as well!I have been working in the industry for over ten years, with my research focusing on sustainable retrofit, structurally insulated panels and cross-laminated timber construction methods.I have one foot in the academic world and the other on the building site, which has nurtured my interest in low carbon buildings such as Passivhaus; achieving these structures often led to working in timber construction methods.I’ve been lucky enough to have seen a wide range of projects during my professional career. I’ve worked on everything from single-story eco-schools to five-storey apartments, and I've enjoyed every minute of it!Some of my most challenging work has included: building a six-storey steel timber hybrid structure in London, developing an ecology centre for the Barking Riverside, and researching what could soon become the tallest timber building in the UK.The one thing that unites all these projects is their complexity! Each project involved numerous design obstacles that had to be overcome with creativity and diligence.I joined TG Escapes as the Design Manager, making it my mission to share the best of modern construction methods and net-zero energy principles.In 2021, we delivered some amazing projects that used design creativity and cutting edge offsite construction techniques. 2022 is going to be an exciting year for us as we have some industry-disrupting announcements planned!
