Christopher Stillwell Email and Phone Number
As a software developer, I've written a lot of code, but working on small teams means I've done much more than just that in my career. No matter the task, I strive to deliver solid work. When my code does what it should, when I support colleagues, when clients are satisfied, that’s when I'm most proud. Some accomplishments:- I was lead developer and administrator for the U.S. Naval Research Laboratory’s Drupal-based intranet, serving 5,000 users. Some notable features I implemented include building a granular email notification system, retrofitting the site to send cryptographically-signed emails, rapidly deploying a Covid-19 information hub, and creating an anonymous suggestion box to communicate with senior leadership.- I developed process and custom tools for managing a fleet of 100+ Drupal sites, including tools for automating tasks, monitoring site health, deploying updates, identifying vulnerabilities, and performing other DevOps duties.- I took on a variety of information security and compliance responsibilities, including maintaining access controls, handling PII, addressing advisories and Acunetix vulnerability scans, and implementing zero-day mitigations.- I used Laravel, a modern PHP framework, to implement API features for Nudgehero, a medication reminder application.- I implemented an AWS Lambda function in Python to let a physical Amazon IoT button trigger server-side code for Nudgehero.Skills:Technologies: PHP, Python, Javascript ES6, C, C++, Java, Bash, Zsh, PowerShell, HTML5, CSS3, MySQL, Docker, AWS, Git, Postman, cURL, Selenium, BeautifulSoup, Pandas, Numpy, Google Sheets, RegExOSes: Windows, Mac OS, Linux (Ubuntu, CentOS).Frameworks: Drupal, Laravel, FlaskClearance: Active Secret ClearanceCertifications: CompTIA Network+ (satisfies IAT Level I), currently pursuing Security+ (will satisfy IAT Level II)I aim to be a resource. Senior Web Application DeveloperZurka Interactive Llc Mar 2008 - PresentArlington, Virginia, United StatesZurka Interactive was my introduction to the dynamic world of commercial software development. My home for many years, Zurka is a small company specializing in web sites, web applications, mobile apps, and internet-connected technologies.Commercial web development is a competitive field, and every project has to contribute to the bottom line. Some of the ways I contributed to Zurka include:- I helped launch version 2 for NudgeHero, a medication reminder application for iOS, by using the Laravel PHP framework to develop the server API the mobile app communicated with.- I further supported NudgeHero by writing an AWS Lambda function in Python, and configuring AWS infrastructure, to enable users with Amazon IoT buttons to signal to our server when they'd taken their medication.- I addressed web site vulnerability scan findings for a regional grocery store chain seeking PCI compliance in order to process credit card transactions.- I helped to develop a jobs site dedicated to startup jobs. When the US-centric site expanded to support international jobs, I built the tools needed to support and integrate varied address formats with our existing data.- I built long relationships with our clients, working directly with them to determine their requirements and give them exactly what they needed. -
Senior Web Application Developer (Contractor)U.S. Naval Research Laboratory Jun 2010 - Mar 2024Washington, District Of Columbia, United StatesI contributed a substantial body of work to the U.S. Naval Research Laboratory as a contractor in the Applications & Process Automation section, doing the kind of behind-the-scenes work that was crucial to supporting NRL's mission as one of the nation's premier research institutions. As part of the web services and process automation section, I developed and maintained internal and external sites and applications, and prioritized serving the diverse and evolving needs of the lab staff.- I was the lead developer and administrator for the lab's Drupal-based intranet, serving the entire lab. Features I developed allowed the intranet to serve as a central hub for the lab's business, including implementing a granular email notification system, customizing Drupal's email subsystem to send cryptographically-signed emails, building integrations between Drupal and various 3rd party libraries, and developing an anonymized suggestion box for users to communicate with lab leadership.- I managed a large collection of internal web sites. I created custom tools to simplify site administration, including scripts to monitor site statuses, run maintenance routines, conduct QA, generate reports, and undertake other DevOps tasks.- I was responsible for ensuring that the sites I oversaw were secure and DoD STIG compliant. I kept abreast of advisories, addressed Acunetix vulnerability scan findings, developed tools to monitor site health, deployed updates, and implemented custom fixes for zero-day vulnerabilities.- I served as an in-house subject matter expert for Drupal and ServiceNow, able to provide informed opinions and ready solutions whenever problems arose, and reducing the lab's dependence on outside consultants. -
It Systems AssistantGreater Washington Publishing Aug 2004 - Dec 2005Vienna, Virginia, United StatesGreater Washington Publishing was the beginning of my career in computing. As a medium-sized company with a small IT department, if it was IT-related, I played a part. I supported users, fixed computers, administered servers, coordinated with consultants, negotiated with vendors, watched the network, kept backups, set policies, planned strategies, wrote some code to automate processes, and even served as the interim IT manager. I worked with everyone in the company, did a lot of technical heavy lifting, and kept things running smoothly, all in a cost-conscious environment with tight deadlines.
