As Director of Operations of The American Board of Addiction my primary responsibility is to implement the strategic goals and objectives of the organization, enable the Board to fulfill its governance function, and to give direction and leadership toward the achievement of the organization's mission. ABAM’s mission is to maintain and enhance the quality of health care by certifying physicians who demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and attitudes essential for excellent patient care in the field of Addiction Medicine. The intent of both the initial certification of physicians and the maintenance of certification is to provide assurance to the public that a physician specialist certified by ABAM has successfully completed an evaluation process which includes components designed to assess the medical knowledge, judgment, professionalism, clinical and communication skills required to provide quality patient care in Addiction Medicine.As the Director of Operations since the inception of the Board, I have helped to the support the mission by establishing a beneficial working relationships with the nearly 3,000 ABAM Diplomates through direct oversight of the Certification and Maintenance of Certification Programs, including the marketing, promotion, delivery and quality of programs, products and services. And by prviding sound management of the financial practices of ABAM including a 2 million dollar operating budget, and by ensuring that ABAM operates within established budget guidelines, by maintaining the official records to ensure compliance with ABAM’s by-laws and federal, state and local regulations, by recruiting and employing all ABAM and The ABAM Foundation personnel, including the supervision for ABAM's Finance Director, Credentialing Coordinator, MOC Coordinator and Office Manager.Additionally I am the System Administrator for the network and the IT infrastructure for the organization, manage Certification and Maintenance Software and Dataabases.

As the Credentialing Director for the American Society of Addiction Medicine for nearly 15 years, my primary responsibility was management of the nearly 5,000 certified physicians, including oversight of the certification and re-certification program for the Society, and successful management of the 1 million dollar Annual budget. The Society's mission is to.increase access to and improve the quality of addiction treatment; to educate physicians (including medical and osteopathic students), other health care providers and the public;to support research and prevention; to promote the appropriate role of the physician in the care of patients with addiction; and to establish addiction medicine as a specialty recognized by professional organizations, governments, physicians, purchasers and consumers of health care services, and the general public.As the Credentialing Director, I helped to support this Mission by managing the ASAM Certification Program, including the ASAM Certification Exam and Maintenance of Certification Examinations, as well at the Application and Evaluation process, In this role I served as the office contact for ASAM certification and Maintenance of Certification information and questions. I managed and maintained ABAM exam candidate records, and served as staff liaison Credentialing Committee, Examination Committee, Nomination Committee, Training Committeed, Education Committee, and the Accreditation Committee. As well as managed a variety of special projects for the executive director, including service on the Medical Specialty Action Group which led directly to the formation of the American Board of Addiction Medicine and The ABAM Forundation. In support of the Executive director I also organized and coordinated all aspects of the bi-annual board of Directors meetings for the new organizations, as well as the committee meetings.

As a research and tissue culture technician at the Suny Health Science Center for nearly 3 years, I conducted scientific research in the field of Diabetes on tissue samples from a variety of organic material. My responsibilities included maintenance of tissue culture samples, and the large scale growth, isolation, and extraction of DNA plasmids for subsequent molecular and forensic analysis.My responsibilities included identifying and recording scientific results, keeping detailed accounts of all activities, research and observations, calculating and correctly logging data and providing full reports on research findings that may include unusual growth, abnormalities, disease or general cellular composition. I helped develop the Ribo-nuclease Protection Assay for the Pediatrics Department as well as operated sensitive tools and instruments used for research,calibrated and inspected equipment, and ensured a safe, clean environment.
