In 2013 the school district I worked for, West ISD, suffered greatly from a fertilizer plant explosion in which we lost 3 out of the 4 campuses. The campus in which the technology center was located was completely decimated, including all technology systems. As a team of 2 and volunteers from across the country we were able to formulate a solution and completely rebuild all systems and have a fully functional network in 5 days. Over the next 3 years after the explosion I coordinated a team including Architects, Engineers, Educators, Administration, and the School Board to design the technology for the new schools. Ultimately, the Secondary campus was awarded ENR Texas & Louisiana’s 2017 Best Project for K-12. The project was recognized for excellence in design, safety, innovation and teamwork.I greatly enjoyed that time in my career and has lead me to realize my greatest strengths are Problem Solving, Logistics, Management, Creativity, and a very broad knowledge of technology. Working with such limited resources that a small school district requires has honed those skills even further. I have also realized that I have a particular strong sense of foresight after I presented and implemented a digital citizenship program to the district well before the new Senate and House Bill were introduced.
