Founded the middle school program ("LabX") and served as the school's first K-8 academic director.• Developed Khan Lab middle school's ("LabX") first self-directed learning routines that utilized daily team building, student-led project meetings, Asana goal setting, and Portfolium student self-curated portfolios, that mixed student-initiated personal projects with a themed community inquiry project.• Developed community inquiry projects that included: learning to build a boat, creating a startup, conducting Big Data research, and putting on a Shakespeare play.• Created and implemented Khan Lab School's in-house experiential programs including: camping and mountain climbing, NYC Model United Nations, SF oral history projects, state drama competitions, student-led research at Facebook, and a Draper University entrepreneurship competition.• Trained the middle schoolers to independently navigate every Bay Area transportation system from bikes, trains, buses, to ferries.• Negotiated with edtech companies to pilot blended learning platforms with an emphasis on adapting college MOOCs for a middle school environment: MasterClass and FutureLearn.• Trained students in schoolwide community meeting, meditation, and end of the day schoolwide clean up.• Developed Khan Lab School's student governance program using Summerhill and Sudbury Valley's governance models that emphasized mixed age bonding, mentoring, and rule setting and enforcement. • Developed teacher training and professional development, facilitating prominent visitors to come work with KLS teachers, as well as sending KLS teachers off-site to work with teachers at other schools around the nation. • Traveled to leading self-directed communities: Sugata Mitra's School in the Cloud, Acton Academy, NuVu Studios, and North Star Academy to begin collaborations with Khan Lab School.• Launched and curated Khan Lab School's social media communications on Facebook and Twitter.
