As a child I was filled with curiosity. While other children were playing or watching the television, I was finding my imagination and inquisitive nature through books. My reading comprehension was so advanced that by the age of four I was reading and understanding chapter books. However my inquisitive mind did not stop at just reading books; I also found a deep admiration for math and science. My family was considered a lower income African-American family that struggled to care for me and my brothers in rural Mississippi, but life started to change when my father decided to move us to Lee’s Summit, Missouri in the middle of my eighth grade year. I was taken out of my comfortability of home and people I had spent fourteen years of my life with and was thrust from a predominantly African-American school into a middle class predominantly Caucasian high achieving school. All of my achievements have created the opportunity for me to further my education. Now I have the opportunity to turn my education into a career through internships and co-ops and now full time jobs.
