I would rather have gotten a tooth pulled than read a book when growing up. Reading to me was worse than watching paint dry. I never understood how people thought it was enjoyable. It wasn’t until my mentor challenged me to read a book when I was fifteen called, “How to Win Friends and Influence People” that I read a book fully and enjoyed it. This book taught me a lot but most importantly it was the beginning of me realizing my passion for two things: putting other people first and working in business. As time has gone by, I honed in on my skills to help build my arsenal to pursue my passions. I learned from experienced professors and professionals as a Business Fellow. I perfected leadership skills through my roles in music, at church, and creating Chess Club. I served others as an SGA representative and the community through the work I have done as a Chapel Outreach Coordinator. I learned to become detail-oriented in everything I do when I interned at GCI. And of course, I kept reading more books.I learned many lessons from my experiences when pursuing these passions. In truth, I came to realize that I don’t believe that putting other people first and working in business are two different things . . . but instead to succeed in business is about putting other people first.
