Chris began his shipping career in 1998 at Seattle-based Alaska Marine Lines, where he held a succession of roles over seven years. In 2006, Chris moved back to his island home and began working at Young Brothers as Shoreside Equipment Superintendent. As a member of the Safety Control and Assist Team (SCAT) and ICC (Incident Command Team), he worked to improve safety performance, ensure safe terminal operations, and maintain company ISO/ISM procedures. In 2012, Chris expanded his focus and, as Regional Operations Manager, now manages both terminal and barge operations in Honolulu and Lanai. He combines expertise and management capabilities with solid negotiation and decision-making strategies, a unique blend of skills that allows him to successfully build relationships across teams made up of both Young Brothers management and ILWU employees.Chris has contributed to major projects for Young Brothers, including key environmental and disaster preparedness initiatives. As part of these initiatives, Chris works closely with the State of Hawai’i, FEMA, NOAA, and the US Coast Guard on their shared goal to improve the state’s disaster relief capabilities and ensure a sustainable future for our islands. As a native Hawaiian from the Big Island, he understands the unique environment and people of Hawai’i and passionately supports initiatives that make a positive impact on the community. His passion for Hawai’i extends to the wider community in his volunteer work for Na Kama Kai, a youth education nonprofit organization.
