Java Developer that has been customizing point-of-sale software for two decades.From 2011 to present, I have been customizing Oracle's Xstore point-of-sale software for a wide variety of retailers. Xstore is a Java based application that uses Spring beans, custom XML configuration files, and custom frameworks to deliver its functionality. I have a lot of experience interfacing Xstore with third-party web services -- most recently through REST and SOAP before that.Faced with a customer's REST API comprised of 40+ service calls and on-going Swagger specification updates, I realized that I could either maintain all of the code and configuration manually and make updates every time a new specification was delivered or I could write something that would generate the code and configuration and be more reliable and less error prone than having to do it manually. Therefore, I created a stand-alone Java application to generate code and configuration for Xstore's service framework. The application uses features from JDK 18 (the latest at the time), JavaPoet, the Swagger/OpenApi codegen Maven plugin, and Maven -- with the exception of core Java, all of these tools, including the features in the latest JDK, were new to me. I've been able to use my creation on other projects so it was well worth the time and effort that I put into it.Manually making backups of my project databases in an Oracle multitenant environment was a chore, so I automated the process of performing a DataPump export for each of the databases using PowerShell -- an area new to me before my undertaking. Now, I have a PowerShell script that I run regularly to ensure that I always have a recent backup of my project databases.From 2003 to 2011, I customized two other point-of-sale products:* Store21 - a product with PowerBuilder and Adaptive Server Anywhere database as its foundation* Tradewind - a product with Visual Basic 6 and SQL Server database as its foundationBefore 2003, for other employers, I collaborated to produce software that performed tasks such as wireless data collection, barcoding, sequencing, maintenance and repair tracking, shipping label printing, inventory, warehouse, time and attendance, and piece cost and investment tracking. The industries were more varied than my last twenty years including manufacturing, military, automotive, and financial.
