The College is also known as and has been designated by the Governor and Legislature as The Military College of Pennsylvania.The TAC (Teach, Advise, and Counsel) Officer is responsible and accountable for the daily operations, training, discipline, leadership development, management and overall supervision of the cadets assigned to their unit. Maintains a safe and secure learning and living environment as well as oversees appropriate behavior management in accordance with the published rules and regulations. Is the primary point of contact for all actions associated with the cadets of their unit and are the primary counselor and role model to their cadets in shaping ethically mind citizen leaders of character. TAC’s also have additional duties in support of the Academy’s summer programs, training management and professional development. They are expected to develop both team and personal relationships with Cadets, built on trust and mutual respect and teach life skills. TACs lead by precept and example and are the embodiment of all the school was established on by its founder. The Barrack’s Advisor is responsible for advising, coaching and guiding the cadets who reside in their assigned barracks as they negotiate their cadet responsibilities. This includes but is not limited to academic, tactical, community, VFMAC, peer, family and personal responsibilities and challenges.I was resposible for management of the "E Battery"a motorized cadet unit. That role included the oversight of vehicles and artillery pieces that were employed in parades and other roles. I was also one of the firearms instructors and range safety officers. The Department was created on January 1, 1983, and it evolved as a result of the passage of the Public Transportation Act of 1979 and subsequent legislation on the state and federal levels. At that time, the original complement included thirty-nine Commissioned Rail Police Officers. On January 12, 1990, NJSA 27:25-15.1 was enacted into law, and it established the NJ Transit Police Department as a sworn law enforcement agency with the "general authority, without limitation, to exercise police powers and duties, as provided for police officers and law enforcement officers, in all criminal and traffic matters at all times throughout the State..." The current, authorized strength of the Department includes 220 sworn officers and 67 non-sworn members (which include Fare Enforcement Inspectors) serving the more than 400,000 commuters who use the NJ Transit system daily.
