Most recently, I simultaneously led the process design for two major EPC projects with a combined capital value of $425MM. I participated in proposal development and FEED studies, where I sized and specified equipment, instrumentation, and piping based on my process simulations. I worked closely with the estimators to understand what is needed for the particular estimate's level of accuracy. I reviewed these feasibility projects for scope to ensure that everything has been included and to minimize surprises when the project moves forward. During the project kickoff phase, I reviewed the proposal scope & budget for the Process discipline against what I think it will take to complete the project to identify any gaps in scope or budget before they are a problem. If possible, I try to outline required scope changes due to these gaps early in the project to avoid impacting the project's schedule.

Working primarily with clients in the energy sector, I performed process simulations with Aspen HYSYS, created and maintained P&IDs and related documentation, and supported downstream disciplines including piping, instrumentation, and programming.I participated in proposal development, FEED studies, and FEL projects, where I sized and specified piping, equipment & control valves based on my process simulations. I led the process design of two pipeline booster pump stations, which were the first of their kind for the operating company. I developed the tie-in and pumping station P&IDs, participated in the required safety reviews, and reviewed the 3D model for process and operability concerns.

I successfully led the process design of a 5,000 HP reciprocating hydrogen compressor with interstage cooling and phase separation, including preparing new design basis documents, PFDs, P&IDs, and a process control philosophy. I assisted other departments in selecting vendors based on technical qualifications, and reviewed vendor documentation related to process and control systems. After auditing relief valve calculations against installed piping isometrics for a client's greenfield 2nd generation ethanol facility, I identified 3 safety relief valves with potentially unsafe installations and recommended changes to meet industry best practices.I improved the speed and accuracy of SMARTPLANT/AUTOCAD P&ID drafting by generating a set of PDF stamps, enabling all team members to make consistent drawing markups. The stamps managed changes to the drawings with included JavaScript programming that automatically added user information.

I completed accurate technical and commercial proposals based on customer needs, resulting in new business of $15MM. I managed several large (>$1MM total value) and many small capital projects after receiving an order, delivering successful custom-designed packages on time and within budget.Using a combination of in-house software, spreadsheet models, and a commercial process simulator (CHEMCAD), I sized a wide range of equipment, including heat exchangers, liquid ring vacuum pumps, steam ejectors, and separator vessels. I generated PFDs and P&IDs during the proposal phase, and reviewed technical drawings generated by the design team during the project phase.

I collected, processed, and analyzed heavy metal data to determine the efficacy of biofuel crops in soil remediation on marginal lands. I developed a video summarizing my group's research. I was awarded a ten-day trip to Germany for this video, which won the nationwide Change in Your Neighborhood contest.
