About Christopher Ryba
I have nearly a decade of aerospace engineering experience supporting the structural design, production, and repair of commercial aircraft and spacecraft. I previously worked at Gulfstream's Service Center where I created major and minor structural repairs, led department-changing process improvements, and conducted on-site aircraft incident investigations around the United States. Prior to this, I supported structural design groups for the Boeing 767 and SpaceX Dragon Capsule. Additionally, I am a certified PMI Project Manager, small business owner, and personal finance author.Professionally, I am an engineer that challenges myself to perform at levels beyond most colleagues my age. I focus on being inquisitive and fast-learning of any organization's process. I have a strong eye for system improvement, constantly looking for ways to create positive change for the team. Complementing my technical acumen, I prioritize creating strong communication channels with customers regarding technical subjects.I own and operate Savannah Aerials, an FAA Part 107 certified drone media business and previously served as an editor to the New York Times best-selling personal finance book "Your Money or Your Life" (2018). I received my BSE in Aerospace Engineering and International Minor for Engineers from the University of Michigan in December 2013.

Structural Engineer
Chris was a structural engineer in Gulfstream's Customer Support business unit which provided fleet-wide maintenance services on-site and around the world. Chris primarily worked with stress analysts, FAA Authorized Representatives, Directors of Maintenance, customers and Gulfstream Technical Operations to coordinate major and minor structural repairs. Constant international coordination and internal project management was key to producing high-quality work in a Part 145 repair environment where fleet priorities are constantly in flux.In addition to daily customer maintenance requests, Chris has experience with on-site aircraft incident investigations and structural evaluations in the United States as a part of Gulfstream's Field and Airborne Support Team (FAST) operations. This role blended his technical understanding of tip to tail aircraft structure with serving as a Gulfstream representative in high-visibility aircraft incidents.Additionally, Chris championed a multi-year effort to develop a custom Microsoft SharePoint database to accept, complete, research, track, and measure the daily work activities of a near 100-employee Service Engineering department.

His ability to coordinate with a variety of disciplines afforded him the chance to provide internal consulting during the fall of 2015.▪ Supported skin installation and fuselage joint structural design projects to increase aircraft production rate and improve manufacturing ergonomics of 767 aircraft▪ Managed and designed hundreds of CATIA V5 models, drawings, and material information for detail parts and complex assemblies using parametric design and product database management tools▪ Consulted 10 person engineering team in Long Beach, CA to streamline design, integration, and release of 250+ part fuselage section integration improvement▪ Collaborated with Test & Evaluations on requirements, design, and fabrication of skin panel fatigue test▪ Investigated 3D-printing techniques, material properties, and prototype concepts for first 767 3D-printed structural component for certification As a Production Liaison Engineer, Chris provided timely and critical solutions to manufacturing non-conformance on the production floor. It's a fast-paced role involving coordination between a variety of stakeholders to ensure the plane leaves the factory within design capabilities. ▪ Dispositioned 100+ fuselage and wing non-conformities returning structure to original design capability▪ Investigated nose-to-tail mechanical, composite, electrical, and hydraulic issues to determine root cause issues and raise concerns with necessary stakeholders▪ Coordinated with design, stress, manufacturing, and mechanic capabilities to satisfy production schedule, repair feasibility, and engineering integrity
Production Engineering Intern
Inspired by the awe and grandeur of the SpaceX facility, Chris provided his skills to the manufacturing efforts on the Dragon spacecraft assembly line. This involved coordinating with the mechanics, suppliers, planners, and manufacturing engineers to create the most robust production line possible.▪ Completed process, resource, and layout analysis for the Dragon spacecraft mechanical assembly line▪ Modeled an improved rate-ready production line in SketchUp through implementation of new tooling, ergonomic workstations, material flow equipment, and general aesthetic improvements▪ Presented assembly line rate increase production plan to manufacturing and technician leadership▪ Investigated composite and heat shield issues pertaining to tolerancing, assembly, and material storage
Mechanical Engineering Intern
During the summer of 2012, Chris enjoyed his first engineering opportunity at ViaSat, Inc. in Atlanta, GA. He was exposed to design, product management, and documentation software.
