In this role, I answer emergency and administrative phone lines and dispatch appropriate law enforcement, fire and EMS responses.

As Communications Supervisor, I oversee a shift of three to four telecommunicators. I monitor 9-1-1 calls and other calls for service. I ensure that calls for service are coded properly and are dispatched within a reasonable amount of time. I also oversee our system status management and make the appropriate notifications when necessary. I will act in the duties of a dispatcher or a call taker when the need arises.

I served the Knoxville Volunteer Emergency Rescue Squad as a reserve member, a Shift Qualified Member, Explorer Post Leader, Membership Committee Chair and have served on various other committees. I cherish my time spent at KVERS. I enjoy being able to give back to the community.

I did cold calling to recruit participants for focus groups and market research studies. I also maintained our Facebook page, helped to maintain our client database and performed other office duties as assigned.

As a dispatcher, I scheduled calls for service and dispatched our available ambulances on those calls. I assisted the Operations Manager with scheduling staffing according to the call volume for the following day. I received and processed authorizations from insurance companies and made sure everything was submitted to our customer service department for billing. As an EMT-IV, I provided direct patient care. I would monitor the patient's airway and breathing and assess vital signs during transport. While at Lifeguard, the majority of the calls we responded to were either pre-scheduled doctor appointments, hospital discharges or scheduled dialysis transports. It was primarily a convalescent service.

Being an MDS Assistant required data entry skills, being reliable, being able to do the job quickly and efficiently, knowledge with ICD-9/ICD-10 coding and being able to perform general office tasks. I was responsible for all MDS and Plan of Care entry. I also shouldered the responsibility of making sure all MDS's and Care Plans were signed by team members and placed on the patient's chart. (MDS's are used to evaluate patients and are submitted to insurance companies/Medicare for payment.)

While working with The Claiborne Progress, I covered school athletics, community special interest stories and breaking news. I gained valuable writing and customer service experience (interviews, etc) while working there.

As a Computer Technician, I oversaw a lab of 8 computers and taught classes ranging from basic computer usage to webpage design. While in this role, I would also spend days in the Pre-K and Kindergarten classes teaching the kids how to use the computers. Once the grant funding for the Computer Literacy Program ended (lasted a year), I transitioned into being a substitute teacher for the CCBOE. I taught students K-12 in subjects ranging from PE to Algebra.
