I was the founding executive chairman and responsible for the strategic direction of SADIG. This included liaison with all industry, academia and levels of government to achieve our goal of capability through collaboration for Defence and Aerospace Industries.Under my tenure SADIG achieved the following milestones:• Facilitated Defence Innovation Network (DIN) strategic inputs from DSTG, seven NSW universities, NSW Government, and industry. Resulted in establishment of DIN with formal and funded structure currently based at UTS. • Innovation forums and roundtables with CSIRO support, on many themes inc. commercialising products and design thinking, autonomous systems, quantum computing, managing intellectual property in export markets, and Project Jericho.• Submissions and advocacy to government including the NSW Industry Action Plans, Manufacturing Industry Innovation Precincts, Space Inquiry 2017, NSW Parliamentary Inquiry into Defence Industry 2017 and 2018.• Regional co-operation established with Hunter and Shoalhaven defence groups, with strategic input to DTC in SA and RDA Perth in Western Australia.• Establishment of innovation cluster models for Astronautics and Space 2.0 and advanced composites sectors in NSW.• Staging of joint events in 2016 with KPMG (Minster for Defence Industry briefing), and the TTCP – ‘Five Eyes’ networking event in Sydney (Chief Defence Scientist – Dr Alex Zelinsky) .• Hosting and facilitation for export development with Polish Aviation valley Cluster, and Mediterranean and Normandy France Maritime Clusters.• Developed and contributed to position papers and workshops with lead from UNSW and industry and training groups on harmonization of aircraft and aviation maintenance and licensing (HAMMTaL).
