Since I started my career in IT, I have wanted to provide quality IT services to people, whether that be in a capacity helping family and friends with their computer problems or working in an enterprise environment support critical services.When I started as a graduate at Services Australia (formally known as Department of Human Services), I was given the opportunity to support mainframe infrastructure critical to the Social Security and Health systems help every day Australian Citizens.Over my career at Services Australia, I have worked in several mainframe related roles, both in the technical and non-technical sphere. Always working closely with technical staff from across IT Infrastructure to ensure quality Infrastructure is provided to support the critical services the agency provides.I have developed a passion for the mainframe platform for its incredible robustness, redundancy and processing power, its ability to support critical services even if there are hardware failures. The platform truly embodies the line Monty Python & the Holy Grail “it’s just a flesh wound”, as you can lose parts of the mainframe hardware and it will continue to run and ensure services continue to support customers.Working in various mainframe technical roles, I have been able to work to provide quality services to critical services that help every day Australian Citizens. In my technical roles, I have experience in several mainframe technologies, some of the highlights are:• z/OS Communications Server• Db2 on Z• z/VM• z/OS Sysplex• IBM System Automation and GDPS• CA/Broadcom Netmaster• RACFIn my current role, I am the Director of the Mainframe Platforms team, leading a team of dedicated mainframe technical staff that support one of the largest and complex mainframe environments in the southern hemisphere. I am always looking for opportunities to break the general misunderstanding in IT that the mainframe is old technology, by looking for opportunities to innovate on the platform and show that mainframe is just as modern as any platform and capable of supporting many modern concepts such as DevOps and containerisation of application.
