The role includes supporting the European railway industry in the exploitation of space-based assets such as Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) and Satellite Communications to improve competitiveness and performance of the railway industry. Of particular importance are the proposed evolutions to the European Rail Traffic Management System (ERTMS) including virtual balise detection using GNSS. The support focuses on integrity aspects of GNSS in the railway environment, to ensure safe and reliable integration of GNSS in ERTMS.
