This position provided oversight over Student Accounting, compliance over accounting operations and reporting, and the asset accounting team. Duties assigned to my groups included ensuring all accounts were reconciled university wide, working with the Student Registrars Office to ensure all student accounts were accounted for accurately, and assist in the administration of the single use account program. The asset accounting team was tasked with ensuring the proper accounting transactions were recorded to the general ledger for all capital assets and componentization was calculated appropriately in order to calculate depreciation correctly as well as reporting capital assets on the appropriate annual financial report schedules and proper accounting for leases.

Southwestern Health Resources is an integrated health care network created by UT Southwestern Medical Center and Texas Health Resources. The network's ground zero go-live date was April 1, 2016. In my role as Controller, I was responsible for start-up of Accounting operations from selecting an accounting system, hiring employees, implementing internal controls, creating all accounting policies and procedures, lead in banking relations, selection of external auditors as well as liaison to external auditors during the annual audit, financial reporting and analysis, reporting to board members, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and treasury operations.

In this role I was over two groups in the Accounting Department, consisting of a total of 22 employees at a higher education institution with revenues that exceeded $2 billion. Duties assigned to the two groups were financial reporting and analysis, asset accounting, month end and year end close, vendor maintenance, system process improvements, coordination of the annual audit, general ledger lead in a system conversion from a main frame system to an ERP system, balance sheet reconciliations, and accounting transaction processing.

I was the Accounting Manager of the Finance Department at the City of Cedar Hill. In this role I directed audit preparation and ensured annual audits were completed by required time frames. I selected, trained, assigned, scheduled and coached employees and communicated job expectations. I approved cash disbursements by verifying check amounts against invoices and authorized checks and wire transfers. As the front line manager of the Finance Department I developed and implemented departmental accounting policies, procedures and processes to establish and standardize accounting best practices. In conjunction with the City Manager’s Office, I was responsible for working with departments in compiling the annual budget, justifying incremental budget requests and presenting the final budget packet to the City Council. My office was charged with preparing forecasts and monitoring deadlines to support management requirements and preparation of reports and financial statements for management. Responsibilities included primary ownership of the accounting system including general ledger, accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll processing, purchasing, treasury, budgeting, and reporting. I assisted the City Manager, Finance Director, and financial advisors in compiling bond issue packets for bond rating agencies. Responsible for collaboration with Federal agencies to implement processes to track federal program expenditures and reimbursements. Finance Department lead in an accounting system conversion including fit-gap sessions, creating and mapping to an entirely new chart of accounts, performing two months of parallel payroll processing and final implementation.
