"I hated PE at school" Every other student at my polytech was there because they loved sports or PE. I was there because I knew firsthand the impact that physical activity can have on someone's life. My first venture was a woman's only boot camp, Dolly Squad. I couldn't stand the way that women were marketed to, and I wanted to develop something that was about empowerment and community over the size of their waist. After a few years of working within the fitness industry and becoming increasingly frustrated with what was available, I decided to open a gym. Unbreakable Training, which has changed its identity slightly over the years, now provides community and strength-focused group training. After a few years of working within the gym, I decided to take my career in a different direction and began working with rangatahi who were ageing out of care and protection or exiting youth justice residences.My work in the transitions role unlocked a passion for working with minoritised communities and rangatahi who face high levels of adversity. With the support of our incredible board, I've been able to combine my interests in physical activity and health with my passion for working with marginalised communities and the Unbreakable Foundation was formed.I am now the General Manager, where my role spans from sourcing and supporting the superstars that deliver our programs, working with our communities to ensure we are meeting their needs and coming up with innovative new ways of driving change.
